#14 Golden West pushes past the Wildcats

Huntington Beach, CA| --Going on the road and playing in a hostile environment is never easy. Especially when your opponent is also ranked #14 in the State. The West Los Angeles Wildcats football team dropped a 48-12 decision to the Golden West College Rustlers on Saturday afternoon, in Huntington, Beach.

Golden West struck quickly on a two play drive. Trevon Valdez broke away from 19 yards to give Golden West a 7-0 lead. WEST moved the ball well in their first possession with sophomore quarterback Markell White (Fairfax) connecting on 3 passes but the Rustlers defense  stopped the drive. Later in the 1st quarter, Valdez again broke free, this time from 15 yards to make it 14-0 for the Rustlers. With the Wildcats drive stalled, Golden West started their next drive on their own 36 yard line taking it down the field for their 3rd, 1st half score.

The with the ball back coming back over to WEST, White connected with Drevon Macon  (Hamilton) twice and Jordan King (Milpitas HS (CA)). Macon's second reception of the drive took the ball to the Rustler 40. White tucked the ball under his arm and ran for 7 yards each on the next 2 plays. WEST's Devean Randall (San Pedro) took the handoff for a 16 yard gain to the Golden West five. One play later White would take it in from 5 yards out for a team leading 3rd touchdown of the year and get the Wildcats on the scoreboard. However, WEST would have to settle for just 6 points when Edenson Escobar's (Venice) extra point try hit the left upright and fell back into the end zone. After each team traded defensive stops, the Wildcats couldnt stop the Rustler's Brailon Mouton from pulling a 14 yard touchdown for a Golden West, 28-6 halftime lead.

Markell White gave way to Devin Shay near the end of the 3rd quarter. The freshman from Venonia, Oregon moved the offense down the field during his stint under center. After looking the defender off, Shay threw a pass to a open Wildcat receiver who couldn't hold on for the touchdown. On the very next drive, Shay connected on 5 of 6 passes, including a 33 yard catch and run with William Dorsey (University). On the day, Shay was 7 of 11 for 57 yards and a touchdown. Markell White would finish 12-20 for 66 yards and 0 interceptions. White rushed for 67 yards, while Devean Randall made the most of his 5 carries with 36 yards. Kemond Cohran (Hamilton) added 14 yards on the ground.

Kameran McNeal (Hamilton) had the lone sack of the game to finish with a team leading 5 tackles. Muhammed Khan (King/Corpus Christi, TX) made 4 solo stops and assisted on another. Jacques Wilson (Hamilton) , Brenton Babb (Crenshaw), Justin Murray (View Park)  and Abraham Teka (TC Williams/Alexandria, VA) were solid defensively for WEST each ended the game with 4 tackles each

The connection of Shay and William Dorsey in the 4th quarter helped Dorsey lead all West receivers with 43 receiving yards. The ever reliable Jordan King and Drevon Macon had four grabs each of 33 and 12 yards, respectively. Macon along with Jordan King led the team with 4 catches each. Vincent Rankin (Hamilton) and Kemond Cohran  each had 2 receptions in the contest.

WEST hits the road next weekend for a game at Allan Hancock on Saturday, September 22nd. Game time is set for 2 pm.
