Wildcats easily get by Santa Monica
Six was enough, as the Wildcats elected to suit up only 6 players in their Consolation Championship against Santa Monica College.The Cosairs took their first lead 20 seconds into the first quarter at 2-0. It would prove to be the only lead SMC would have all day. A Lauren Jones layup followed by a three pointer put WEST ahead 5-2.

In the 2nd quarter, it was all Wildcats as the ladies from West outscored SMC 24-8. Just after a minute of entering the game, Elaina Charles' jumpshot with 6:02 remaining put WEST up 16-10. Charles would steal the ball later in the quarter and after Tricia (CeCe) Delph's offensive rebound, Jones scored on an assist from Heyavin Johnson. The former Westchester High product dished out 5 assist. The diminutive pulled down a team high 10 rebounds. CeCe Delph had a total of 9 rebounds, 6 of which came on the offensive boards. At the half West LA led SMC by the score of 31-15.
 
The Wildcats would extend their lead in the 3rd quarter with another 24 point outburst. But it was the Daija Black show for West. The 5'7 sophomore from Irvine scored 15 in the quarter, equaling the Cosairs point production for the quarter. Black, an all conference perfomer a year ago, ended the quarter 5-7, including a three-pointer and 4 of 5 from the line. With 7:04 left in the third, Johnson pulled down the rebound dishing it to Andrea Villela for 2. Villela had two steals in the quarter.
 
In the fourth the two teams went back and forth, trading baskets . After assisting on a Jones basket, Black stole that ball and finished the layup, giving the Wildcats a 64-34 lead at the time.
The tournment marked the 3rd tournament WEST has played all three games. Daija Black finished 23 points and 4 rebounds. For the 2nd time this season, she was named to the all tournament team. Freshman Lauren Jones had a breakout game finishing with a career high 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assist. CeCe Delph came close to her first collegiate double-double, with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Audrina Villela only had 1 turnover in 28 minutes of play.

#14 West LA (5-4) will travel to San Luis Obispo after the Thankingving holiday to compete in the Cuesta College Tournament. West LA's 1st round opponent is Allan Hancock (2-0).
