West LA named No. 17 seed for playoffs, travels to No. 16 San Diego Mesa

The West Los Angeles College women's basketball team is returning to the postseason. On Sunday, the Wildcats were named the No. 17 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs.

West LA is set to travel to No. 15-seed San Diego Mesa College for a first-round game on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) postseason game are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.

Under the direction of head coach Twan Herron, the Wildcats enter the playoffs with a 17-11 overall record and finished tied for fourth place in the final Western State Conference South Division standings at 7-7. West LA is currently riding a five-game winning streak.

The Wildcats are back in the postseason for the first time since the 2018-19 season. After an opening-round bye, West LA suffered a 60-54 loss to Mt. San Jacinto College in Round 2 of the playoffs.

No. 16 San Diego Mesa wrapped up its regular season with a 19-9 overall record and were tied for second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a 9-3 mark. West LA and San Diego Mesa will be meeting for the first time this season.

The winner of Wednesday's match up will move on to a second-round game at No. 1 Mt. San Antonio College (26-2) on Saturday. Three wins are needed by the Wildcats to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on March 15-17 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
