Norman named SCFA Player of the Week after rushing for 256 yards, West LA routs Pierce 36-7

WOODLAND HILLS – West Los Angeles College freshman running back Malik Norman ran wild on Saturday, rushing for a state-high 256 yards on 24 attempts with two touchdowns as he carried the Wildcats to an impressive 36-7 victory at Los Angeles Pierce College.

West LA led 22-0 at halftime and went up 29-0 after Norman's second touchdown of the contest, a 38-yard outburst, at the 12:43 mark in the third quarter.

Norman broke free for a 20-yard TD late in the second quarter to send the Wildcats into halftime with a big lead.

For his efforts, Norman was the named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

West LA totaled 529 yards of offense in the game. Quarterback Cassell Wiggins threw for 156 yards on 10 of 14 passing with two touchdowns.

Kannon Davis caught two passes for 61 yards and a TD while Damon Badenhorst hauled in the other touchdown and totaled four receptions for 54 yards. Badenhorst also added a 15-yard TD run late in the contest to close out the scoring.

The West LA defense did its part, collecting three interceptions while forcing a pair of fumbles. Tyrese Allen, Joshua Sekiyoba, and Robert Thompson all had picks.

Sekiyoba led the Wildcats with 7 tackles while Meshack Santos had 6 tackles, a sack, and forced a fumble.

The win improved West LA to 1-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action next Saturday (Sep. 17) at 1 p.m. when they host Santa Barbara City College.
