No. 6 West LA handles No. 3 San Bernardino Valley in early-season showdown

Two of the top teams in Southern California met on Saturday to close out the O'Fallon and Singui Classic Showcase at Santa Monica College. Led by 16 points from Matthew Mayes and 15 points from Justin Williams, Southern California No. 6 West Los Angeles College knocked off No. 3 San Bernardino Valley College a final score of 86-72.

West LA is 2-0 to open the season after Thursday's victory over LA Pierce in its season-opener.

The Wildcats held a narrow two-point advantage at halftime against SBVC, leading 36-34. But West LA put up 50 points in the second to cruise to victory.

Roy Clarke played well in the win. He contributed 12 points, 8 assists, 5 blocks, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Joseph Anderson chipped in with 11 points and 5 rebounds while Elijah Charles added 8 points and 8 rebounds.

West LA returns to tournament action on Friday (Nov. 12) when it opens play at the three-day San Bernardino Valley College Alvin Hunter Classic. The Wildcats are set to face Copper Mountain College at 1 p.m.
