Shelsin Chavez has been selected by the West Los Angeles College Athletic Department, as our female Scholar Athlete for the month of September 2018. Shelsin graduated from Orthopedic Hospital Medical Magnet High in 2017. Shelsin is a member of the West LA Women’s Soccer Team. She is majoring in Kinesiology and is looking to transfer to an out-of-state university, with a full-ride scholarship playing Division I Soccer, and has earned a 3.58 overall GPA. While competing for West LA she received All Conference Honorable Mention in Soccer, as well as Top Goal Scorer. Shelsin states that she does not have any figure who has influenced her these past couple of years; however, she herself does things on her own will because self-belief is what influences her accomplishments, passion, and the ultimate career she has set out to pursue.  Her advice to other West LA Student-Athletes is, “challenge and set high expectations for yourself no matter how hard it is or what others say. Work up to that because honestly, you will surprise yourself with things you didn’t know you were capable of doing.”
