Su’as Wildcats host Barstow in Doubleheader on Saturday

Su’as Wildcats host Barstow in Doubleheader on Saturday
Culver City, CA: West LA College has had a steady dose of improvement and growth under the direction
of 4th year skipper, Murphy Su'a. Although WEST is 1-6 early in the season, it's the immediate growth
and development  that has Wildcat baseball fans encouraged in 2020
WEST picked up win number one on the season, Wednesday afternoon at Barstow College. Two of the losses this
season, came by only one run and 'Cats bats exploded in game two of the aforementioned win. WEST already has
3 triples and 12 doubles in the 2020 season. The Wildcats are tied for 11th in the state in the triples, as well.
Julian Mungarro is on fire this spring, leading the team in hitting with astounding .500 batting average.
The freshman from St. Monica is 10 for 20, with a double. Mungarro went 3 for 5  in a 4-3 loss against Cerritos
College on February 1. He also has a hitting streak of 6 consecutive games and is tied for 18th in the state in
batting average percentage.

Another freshman, Nathan Nykaza is also on a tear. Nykaza went 3-4, including two doubles and 3 RBI in the Wildcats
first win of the season. The former Beverly Hills High standout is tied for 8th in the state in doubles and leads the
team with 5.

Anthony Angel (St. Monica), Josh Carrillo (Australia) and Julian Huerta (New Design Charter) have been steady for WLAC.
The arms will be important to see how far the Wildcats can go in WSC play. Braydon Williams (View Park) earned
the ball for WEST as the opening day starter this season. After a few bumps in the road, Williams was back on
track against the Vikings of Barstow. The 6'7 flame thrower went the distance (7 innings) striking out 9 and walking
just 2. Williams only allowed 3 hits in the win, while reducing his ERA to a team leading 1.54 on the season. The sophomore
is getting his chance as a starter, after 11 appearances last season, all coming out of the pen.

Taylor Proo (LACES) wants to get back on track after a rough last start. Proo's 2.63 ERA is phenomenal and run
support in the future will give the right hander a few W's in the column.

Coach Murphy Su'a has given seven freshman a shot on the bump already this year, with Alfonso Cano
(Rolling Hills Prep) logging the most innings pitched of the group. WEST will need the lefties Evan Swift (West Torrance),
Taylor Felipe (South Torrance) and Danny Perez (Van Alstyne. Tx.) to come along quickly to provide the Wildcat coaching
staff some situational options.

WEST is at home Saturday, February 8th for a doubleheader with the Vikings of Barstow College. First pitch is 11 am.
Game 2 is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
