Wildcats earn three All-Western State Conference postseason baseball honors

Following the close of the 2022 West Los Angeles College baseball season, three Wildcats received All-Western State Conference South Division postseason honors. Freshmen catcher/pitcher Noah Matsumoto, pitcher Alexander Galvan, and outfielder Nathan Nykaza were named All-WSC honorable mention.

Matsumoto, originally out of Corona Santiago High School, put together a standout season offensively for the Wildcats. He hit a team-high .369 on the season and totaled 52 hits, 10 doubles, 2 home runs, 31 RBI, and walked 15 times. Over 141 at bats, Matsumoto struck out just 13 times.

When he wasn't in the squat behind home plate, Matsumoto pitched in 4 games and closed the season with a 2.70 earned run average. He compiled a 1-1 overall record with a save.

Galvan, a lefty out of Venice High School, pitched in a team-high 16 games, starting 12 of them. He went 2-6 on the season with a 5.47 ERA. Galvan struck out 36 batters and walked just 17 over 79 innings.

Nykaza, from Mira Costa High School, put up good numbers at the plate for West LA as he smashed a team-best 4 home runs with 25 RBI. Nykaza also led the Wildcats by scoring 34 runs and totaled 39 hits, 9 doubles, and 3 triples.

West LA wrapped up the 2022 season with a 8-30 overall record and went 4-17 in Western State Conference South Division play.
