Baltazar Bucup Finishes 30th at the State Championships

Nov 17, 2018 |Fresno, CA. — Baltazar Bucup came in 30th place at the California Cross Country State Championships on Saturday morning, and West LA teammate Armando Lozano took 112th place, as the Wildcat duo of sophomores competed on the iconic Woodward Park Championship Course. Buccup earned a 4-mile time of 21:08, while Lozano crossed the finish in 23:10.

Freshman, Maya Richardson represented the ladies squad well placing 71st in 20:28 in what was challenging conditions for all.  The race was almost postponed due to poor air quality caused by the California fires.  One hour before the start the Air Quality Index (AQI) read 144, so the race was on as previously scheduled.  If it would have read 151 or higher the meet would have been postponed.

All 3 West athletes will also compete for the West track and field team.  The women's program have won 3 Western State titles in a row, including a 4th place team finish in the state last year.  The men have been conference runner-ups 2 years running.  The 2019 track and field program will open up February 9, 2019 at Soka University.
